What is ISTQB?
ISTQB is the International Software Testing Qualifications Board.  It is composed of representatives from each existing national board, such as the VTB. The ISTQB decides on the standards for certification and accreditation as an ISTQB accredited training provider. Working parties within ISTQB are responsible for developing and maintaining the Foundation and Advanced Level syllabi and exams. As with VTB, all members are volunteers.


What is the ISTQB Certified Tester program?
The ISTQB Certified Tester program provides certification for software testers internationally. There are currently two levels of certification: The Foundation Level and the Advanced Level certificates. For both levels, international working parties develop and maintain internationally uniform curricula and exams. One of the core principles of the program is a strict separation between the administration of exams and the training to those who would like to prepare for the exam in ISTQB compliant courses.


What does an ISTQB certificate tell me about the skills of a software tester?
The Foundation Level exam tests for knowledge, not skill. It provides information about the certificate holder's level of familiarity with the most common concepts of software testing and the associated terminology. It does not require work experience. The Foundation Level exam is a stepping stone toward the Advanced Level, which is more in-depth and much more practice-oriented. Foundation Level: Knowledge. Advanced Level: Skill.

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding the Exam

What is the exam format?
The Foundation Level exam consists of 40 multiple choice questions designed to evaluate a candidate's knowledge and understanding of the entire Foundation syllabus. A grade of 65% must be attained in order to pass. The exam is a closed book exam. You have 60 minutes + 25% extra time for Non-Native speaker.
The Advanced Level exam is composed of three sections of 180 minutes each. They correspond to the three different subject areas: 'Technical Test Analyst,' 'Test Analyst,' and 'Test Manager.' All three areas must be passed with more than 65% of the possible points in order to receive the full Advanced Level certificate. However, single sections of the exam can be taken, and the certificate identifies which sections have been completed.  You may sit for only one Advanced Level Exam at a time. The general format of each section corresponds to the Foundation Level exam.

Does everybody take the exact same exam?
No. The questions come from an international pool of questions and are being combined differently so that the exam itself changes constantly while the level of difficulty remains comparable. New questions are constantly being developed by the members of all national boards and the various working parties.

Where can I take the exam?
You have three options for taking the exam:
1) You may take the exam at any of the locations published on the calendar page.  The exam is offered at the conclusion of ISTQB-compliant courses provided by ISTQB-accredited training companies.
2) You may take the exam online at one of hundreds of test centers around the world. 
3) If your company has ten or more testers, you can contact the VTB to administer the exam on site at your company.  See the exam registration page for more information.

How much does the exam cost?
The Foundation Level exam is 2,000,000 Vietnam Dong.
Each of the Advanced Level exams is US $200, with a one-time US $100 qualification fee.


When is payment of the exam fee due?
Upon registration.

What is the Examination Schedule?
Please check the Examination Schedule page for the dates in various cities. The examination dates can change depending on the number of registrations and other factors. Participants will be informed of the date changes in advance.

What is the exam format?
The Foundation Level exam consists of approximately 40 multiple choice questions of 1 points each. An exam amounts to 40 points total, of which 65%(26 points) must be attained in order to pass. The exam is a closed book exam.

How long is exam time?
You have 75 minutes (60 minutes + 25% for non-native English Speaker, applied from 2009).


English Dictionary Provides during the exam?
Yes. we provide English-Vietnamese Dictionary.  Personal Dictionary and related devices are not allowed.


Exam procedure ?
- Questions during the exam are not allowed, and they will not be answered anyway!
- Whoever leaves the exam room without handing in their exam has not passed.
- There are no breaks allowed for visiting the toilet.
- Mobile phones shall be OFF! Using or answering the mobile phone means ”failed exam”.
- A pen must be used, not pencil
-  Notes must be done on the exam forms. There is room for your notes at the end
-  Notes will not be read or given credit for.


Does everybody take the exact same exam?

Can I take the exam online?
No. The format of the exam does not allow for taking it online. The VTB and ISTQB are looking into ways to make the exam available online, but such changes are unlikely to happen in the near future.


When will my result be declared?
The result will be available within 10 working days.  Passing candidates will receive their certificate within eight weeks.


When will my certification be delivered?
After pass the exam criterial, the certification will be delivered within 15 working days.


What is the Cancellation & refund policy?
For public exam candidates the rule we have is:
- No carge for cancelation up to two weeks before the exam date.
- 50% charge for cancelation from 2 weeks up until 3days before the exam date
- 100% charge within 3days.

What is the examination fee to reappear for the exam if one fails in first attempt?
The examination fee for re-appearing for the exam is same.


Is there any validity period for this certification ?
The ISTQB Certified Tester-Foundation Level certificate (CTFL) is valid for life.
The ISTQB Certified Tester-Advanced Level certificate (CTAL) is valid for 3 years.


Is there any study material for this exam?

Is there any discount on the examination fee?
There are two types of discounts available:
1. Candidates who have attended training from an accredited training provider. This discount is given when the training provider forwards the names of the candidates. in detail please contact to training Provider.

Thông tin về kỳ thi
- Trắc nghiệm..
- Chỉ MỘT câu đúng
- Mỗi câu hỏi có giá trị một điểm nếu thí sinh trả lời đúng.
- Table of solution (bảng trả lời câu hỏi) ở trang 2.
- Tổng cộng 40 câu hỏi, tổng cộng 40 điểm.
- Phải đạt ít nhất 26 điểm mới được tính là đạt.
- Thời gian thi là 90 phút.

Thông tin chung
- Thông tin về quy chế thi.
- Không được hỏi trong quá trình thi.
- Không được phép rời khỏi phòng thi. Không cho phép đi vệ sinh trong lúc thi.
-Tắt điện thoại di động. không trả lời điện thoại di động trong phòng thi.
- Không dùng bút chì, dùng bút mực.
-Bài thi có một phần chừa trống dành cho ghi chú, nháp.
- Ghi chú không tính điểm.
-Kết quả sẽ được thông báo trong vòng 10 ngày. Đơn vị tổ chức thi sẽ trực tiếp thông báo đến từng cá nhân.
Chứng chỉ sẽ được phát sau 3 tuần kể từ ngày thi.


Quy trình thi
- Một giám thị chỉ giám sát tối đa 30 thí sinh dự thi.
- Giám thị không được là người đã tổ chức giảng dạy cho thí sinh trước khi thi.
- Giám thị phải là thành viên của Vietnamese Testing Board hoặc là người được lệnh đặc biệt để giám sát kỳ thi.


Trước khi bắt đầu
- Phát bài thi
- Tất cả các thí sinh đều phải có chứng minh thư để trên bàn.
- Thí sinh điền đầy đủ thông tin cá nhân vào bài thi. Đia chỉ e-mail rất quan trọng. Chữ viết phải dễ đọc.           


Bắt đầu thi khi tất cả mọi người đã sẵn sàng.
-  Nhắc thời gian mỗi 10 phút.
-  Kết thúc buổi thi nhắc mọi người đóng và cuộn tròn bài thi.
- Thu bài.

Q. Có khóa học nào bắt buộc trước khóa học ISTQB Foundation không?
A. Không. Không có khóa học bắt buộc trước. Tuy nhiên chúng tôi đề xuất bạn nên có 12 tháng kinh nghiệm trong lĩnh vực kiểm tra phần mềm hoặc làm dự án phần mềm trước khi tham dự khóa học. Chứng chỉ ISTQB là thử thách ngay cả đối với những người đã có kinh nghiệm, vì thế nên tham gia khóa học ISTQB trước khi tham dự kỳ thi ngay cả bạn là người đã có kinh nghiệm.


Q. Dạng bài thi của ISTQB Foundation (CTFL) là gì?
A. Chứng chỉ ISTQB Foundation có 40 câu trắc nghiệm và 90 phút để hoàn thành:
- 20 level 1 'remember' questions – nhớ bài
- 12 level 2 'understand' questions – hiểu bài
-  8 level 3 'apply' questions - ứng dụng
Thí sinh phải đạt được từ 26 câu trở lên mới được công nhận kết quả.
Kỳ thi dựa chủ yếu vào tài liệu 'ISTQB Syllabus Foundation Level V2007' (Free download in the website".  www.istqb.org.download.htm


Q. Bạn có thể chuẩn bị cho kỳ thi ISTQB Foundation trên tài liệu nào?
A. Có 2 tài liệu chính bạn nên đọc kỹ trước khi tham gia thi:
- ‘ISTQB Syllabus Foundation Level V2007’
- ‘ISTQB Standard Glossary of Terms’.
Syllabus giới thiệu các kiến thức cơ bản. Glossary cung cấp các tham  khảo về các thuật ngữ sử dụng trong syllabus. Cả 2 tài liệu này đều download được miễn phí trên website ISTQB.


Q. Tôi tham gia thi ISTQB Foundation mà không cần tham gia khóa học được không?
A. Hoàn toàn được phép.


Q.Nội dung
 - Không được phép gian lận. Không được mang theo bất cứ lời giải, chú thích hay hình ảnh nào. Bản quyền bài thi sẽ được bảo vệ một cách nghiêm túc. Mọi vi phạm bản quyền bao gồm giáo trình, bài thi, sách hay những tài liệu khác sẽ bị hủy bài thi.
- Kết quả thi sẽ được thông báo trong vòng 10 ngày và chứng chỉ sẽ được chuyển đến trong vòng 1 tháng
- Vui lòng mang theo CMND. Nếu không mang CMND (có hình ảnh), bạn sẽ không được phép vào phòng thi
-  Có tất cả 40 câu hỏi theo hình thức trắc nghiệm ( 4 câu trả lời cho mỗi câu hỏi)
-  thi 75 phút ( được lập và quản lý bởi hội đồng thi được ủy quyền)
