ISTQB Foundation Exam & Certification

The ISTQB Certified Tester program teaches knowledge to effectively verify and test software. The syllabus and examination of both ISTQB Certified Tester modules are used by various national boards worldwide, ensuring internationally uniform standards and recognition across borders.

Goals

  • Ensure a broad understanding of the fundamental and key concepts in software testing
  • Provide a foundation for professional growth
  • Ensure an understanding of key concepts in software testing by committed test professionals


Syllabus/body of knowledge covers

  • Fundamentals of testing, test management, testing tools, test planning approaches, and basic performance testing
  • Syllabus-based training courses are typically 3-5 days


Examination

The location of an examination is normally at a training company. Single examinations are 90 minutes.
The examination has the form of a multiple-choice test. There is only one correct answer to each question.


Evaluation

After marking, the result of your examination is sent to you by e-mail.



Failing and repeating an exam

It is posible to fail the examination. If you fail it is possible to repeat the examination.


Period
Candidates are required to sit a 90 minutes, 40-question multiple choice examination designed to evaluate a candidate's knowledge and understanding of the entire Foundation syllabus. 


Topics
Topics within the Foundation syllabus have been categorized by learning objective, defining the level of knowledge a candidate must display for each topic.

The three categories are as follows:
  • K1 - remember, recognize, recall;
  • K2 - understand, explain, give reasons, compare, classify,summarize;
  • K3 - apply in a specific context

The ISTQB has mandated a weighting for each exam paper. 50% of the questions will be K1 level, 30% will be K2 level and 20% will be K3 level.
